A special meeting of the Sunyani West Municipal Assembly was convened on Thursday, 8th May 2025, at the Municipal Assembly Hall, Odomase.
The meeting was held to reconstitute the various sub-committees of the Executive Committee of the Municipal Assembly.
Hon. Atta Kwasi Dognekoh Snr., the Presiding Member of the Assembly, welcomed the members to the meeting and urged them to rally behind the developmental agenda of the municipality devoid of politics. He used the opportunity to express his gratitude to them for voting him to be the Presiding Member in their special meeting.
The Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Kwasi Asante Boateng (Esq.), addressing the members, expressed appreciation to members for endorsing him massively as the MCE in a special meeting held for his confirmation.
He called on the members to join forces together in unity and sincerity to champion the development of the area.
According to Section 23 of the Local Governance Act, 2016 Act 936, An Executive Committee shall have the following five mandated sub-committees;
- Development Planning Sub-Committee
- Social Services Sub-Committee
- Works Sub-Committee
- Finance and Administration Sub-Committee
- Justice and Security Sub-Committee
And any other Sub-Committees that the Assembly may determine, hence the introduction of
- Women and Children Sub-Committee and
- Agriculture and Environment Sub-Committee.
In the end, the various Sub-Committees successfully elected their conveners as indicated below:
- Development Planning Sub-Committee – Kwame Yeboah
- Works Sub-Committee – Asamoah Christian
- Finance and Administration Sub-Committee – Adu Augustine
- Justice and Security Sub-Committee – Joseph Bongah
- Social Services Sub-Committee – Godfred Owusu
- Women and Children Sub-Committee – Madam Rita Amankwah
- Agriculture and Environment – Casmir Basingah.
The House also elected Madam Dorcas Kyeremaa and Madam Cecilia Asuamah to join the various Sub-Committee chairmen to form the Executive Committee of the Assembly per the Assembly’s Standing Orders.
The following members were also elected to be members of the Public Relations and Complaints Committee headed by the Presiding Member:
- Alhaji Mahama
- Frank Asamoah
- Twumasi Mohammed
- Madam Mary Akoma and
- Stephen Meyir.
