On Wednesday, 11th June 2025, a total of 2,689 candidates from both public and private basic schools within the Sunyani West Municipality commenced the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE). The candidates comprise 1,301 boys and 1,388 girls sitting for the nationwide assessment, which marks the culmination of their basic education journey.

This was disclosed during a monitoring visit by the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Honorable Kwasi Asante-Boateng (ESQ), to selected examination centers within the municipality. The visit aimed to assess the conditions under which the examinations were being conducted, motivate the candidates, and convey a message of goodwill from the President of the Republic, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama.

Addressing the candidates, Honorable Kwasi Asante-Boateng encouraged them to remain calm, focused, and confident throughout the examination period. He emphasized the importance of integrity, urging the students to refrain from any form of examination malpractice. “This examination is an opportunity for you to demonstrate the knowledge and skills acquired over the years. Avoid any form of external assistance and write the exams with confidence,” he stated.

In a show of support, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Sunyani West, Honorable Millicent Amankwah Yeboah, donated two thousand seven hundred (2,700) mathematical sets to the candidates. The items were officially presented to the Municipal Director of Education by the MCE on behalf of the MP for distribution to all candidates across the centers.

The MCE was accompanied by officials from the Municipal Education Directorate and staff of the Sunyani West Municipal Assembly during the tour.

The Sunyani West Municipal Assembly remains committed to supporting quality education and creating enabling conditions for academic excellence in the municipality.
