The 67th Independence Day Anniversary celebrations in the Sunyani west Municipality in the Bono region was held at the SS Peter and Paul Roman Catholic school park, Odomase under the theme” Our Democracy, Our Pride”.
1050 contingents drawn from 16 Primary, 14 Junior High Schools within Odomase circuit A and B six SHS/ TVET schools, cadet corps from five SHS/ TVET and 108 teachers marked the historic day.
The Municipal Director of education, Mr. Isaah Baffoe in his address urged the citizenry to recommit ourselves to the ideals that make our country great and remember the sacrifices that have been made to protect the country’s freedom as we strive for a better future for all Ghanaians.
The Member of Parliament for the constituency who also doubles as the minister for Employment and Labour Relations, Mr. Ignatius Baffour Awuah noted that the occasion should rekindle the spirit of patriotism in us as Ghanaians not only look at the funfair aspect of it.
He later presented 5 boxes of street bulbs to all the Senior High schools and promised to take the school would emerged as winner in the Junior High school category to Accra by flight for a 3 tour.
The Municipal Chief Executive, Mr. Evans Kusi Boadum in his address stated that the country’s democracy cannot be overstated since it has contributed immensely to political stability in the country.
“In embracing democracy as a Municipality, we affirm our belief in the inherent dignity and worth of every individual regardless of tribe, ethnicity, religion or creed.” he said.
According to him, the Assembly in 2023 embarked on some developmental projects to improve social services delivery which were funded through the assembly’s share of the common fund and Responsive Factor Grant. These projects include;
1)Mechanization of boreholes at Mantukwa, Ayakomaso CHPs, Compound and odomaseman senior school to provide portable drinking water for people in those areas.
2)The construction of a 10- unit market stores at Fiapre market centre to ease congestion at the market.
3)The construction of a 4-unit workshop at Nsoatre Vocational and Technical institute to aid teaching and learning.
4)Most feeder roads in the Municipality were graded to facilitate movement of people, goods and services to improve the lot of people.
5)Construction of aa 6-unit classroom block at Dumasua Methodist JHS
He mentioned that the following projects has been earmarked for 2024
i)Construction of a 1 No. Nurse’s quarters with mechanized borehole to accommodate health workers at Boffourkrom which will help provide quality health services to indigenes at all times.
ii)Construction of a 1No. 6-unit classroom block with 1 No. 8- seater KVIP at Kyem Amponsah senior High School, Fiapre to promote second cycle education in the Municipality.
iii)Construction of a 1 NO. 6 -unit classroom block with 1 No. 8 – seater KVIP at Mantukwa M/A school to aid teaching and learning in the community.
iv)Construction of a 1 No. Teachers Quarters with mechanized borehole at Baashed, Nsoatre to provide accommodation for teachers.
v)Construction of 1 No. Culvert/ Drain on Afransum River at Nsoatre to help ease transport for indigenes and improve the drainage system in the area.
vi)Construction 20 units market stores at Odomase daily market.
This according to him does not only address basic need but also serves as catalyst for educational advancement.
Kwatire M/A primary, Kwatire M/A JHS and Notre Dame SHS were adjudged winners respectively in the marching.
The programme brought together Nananom of Awuah Domase, Odomase No. 1, Assembly Members, the Clergy, Heads of Departments and the general public.
