The Sunyani West District Assembly has presented 26 packets of roofing sheets, worth GHC 10,400 to three basic schools affected by a downpour at Chiraa.
A rainstorm, which hit the area on March 30, this year ripped-up the roofing of the school buildings and destroyed computers, textbooks, registers as well as other teaching and learning materials.
The affected schools were; the Chiraa Islamic Junior High School (JHS), local Roman Catholic JHS and the local Methodist “B” JHS.
Mr Felix Chaahaah, the Brong-Ahafo Regional Coordinating Director, made the presentation and explained government’s readiness to promote quality education.
He said a similar downpour caused havoc in Berekum and Techiman Municipalities, and added that very soon the government would support the affected people and schools.
Mr Effa Boateng, the Headmaster of Chiraa Methodist “B” JHS, on behalf of the beneficiary schools, thanked the district Assembly and the government for the support.
He said the schools needed additional textbooks, computers as well as other teaching and learning materials, and appealed to the government and other corporate bodies to come to their aid for effective academic work to begin.
