The 68th Independence Day Anniversary Ceremony in the Sunyani West Municipality was held under the theme “Reflect, Review, and Reset.”

The celebration was marked by a debate among six public senior high schools in the municipality under the topic “We Are Capable of Building Our Ghana” in the Municipal Assembly Conference room.

The schools that participated were Odomaseman Senior High School, Kyem Amponsah Senior High School, Sacred Heart Senior School, Chiraa Senior High School, Nsoatre Technical Institute, and Notre Girl’s Senior School.

The chairman for the programme, Nana Osei-Asare Konantwi, Acting President of Awua Domase Traditional Council, urged the public to commit to dedication and patriotism to build the Ghana we all want. According to him, the theme for the celebration is to call on every Ghanaian to look into our past, make assessments, and make decisions for a better future.

The Sunyani West Municipal Education Director, Mr. Issah Baffoe, in his address, appealed to the public to accept the theme for the celebration and reflect on it as we embark on a new journey as a country. He mentioned that this year’s celebration has seen a significant change from the usual march-past by students to a debate competition by the schools.

Delivering the Anniversary Address, Mr. Gordon Domayele, the municipal coordinating director, said, In 68 years of independence, the country has achieved a lot; that is why, as a country, we should reflect, review, or make an assessment and reset by setting goals to reflect where we want to be as a country.

According to him, we need a collective effort and change in attitude and to develop a high sense of nationalism to develop our own country.

The occasion was used to reward some individuals who excel in the Basic Education Certificate Examination for both private and public schools for the year 2023.

After the debating contest, Kyem Amponsah SHS emerged as the winner, Notre Dame Girl’s SHS was second, and Odomaseman SHS took the third position.
