Residents of Odumase in the Sunyani West District of the Brong-Ahafo Region, have expressed displeasure over the ‘undue delay’ in the opening of a police station, which was constructed by the assembly about four years ago.
They said the non-existence of a functional police station at Odumase has made the town a “safe heaven and a breeding ground for criminals”.
The Queen Mother of Odumase Number 1, Nana Abenaa Boatemaa, said the youth in the area indulge in social vices such as drug abuse and burglary.
This came to light during a town hall meeting, organised by the Ministry of Information and the Sunyani West Assembly, at Odumase.
The District Chief Executive for Sunyani West, Martin Obeng, explained that the police administration requested for residential accommodation before personnel could be posted to Odumase.
He said that the assembly had secured accommodation but the Police Service has since not posted personnel to man the police station.
The DCE announced that the assembly had presented a petition to the Ministry for The Interior on the issue.
Mr. Obeng said the construction of permanent office accommodation for the assembly was progressing.
Since the creation of the district in 2007, most of its departments had been operating from a temporary structure, which was volunteered by the Odumase Traditional Council, while others operate from rented apartments.
He said Asutifi South and Nkoranza North, and Sunynai West, have been selected to benefit from new administration blocks.
Mr Obeng indicated that the Sunyani West Assembly was taking steps to stop diversion of revenue and collection of revenue by unauthorised people.
